Disease: A viral infection transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, primarily found in parts of Africa and South America.
Symptoms: Fever, chills, severe headache, back pain, general body aches, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and weakness. Severe cases can lead to jaundice, bleeding, and organ failure.
Vaccine: Yellow Fever Vaccine (Live attenuated virus)
Dose Schedule:
- Primary dose: Single dose at least 10 days before travel.
- Booster: Generally not needed for most travelers as one dose provides lifelong protection.
Side Effects: Mild headache, muscle pain, fever. Rarely, severe allergic reactions or neurological conditions.
Risks if Contracted: High fatality rate in severe cases; liver and kidney failure.
