Disease: A viral brain infection spread by ticks in parts of Europe and Asia.
Symptoms: Fever, muscle pain, headache, confusion, neurological symptoms.
Vaccine: Tick-borne Encephalitis Vaccine (Inactivated virus)
Dose Schedule:
- Primary series: Three doses given intramuscularly, with the first two doses 1-3 months apart and the third dose 5-12 months after the second.
- Booster: First booster dose 3 years after the primary series, followed by additional boosters every 3-5 years if continued risk.
Side Effects: Soreness at injection site, fever, headache.
Risks if Contracted: Severe neurological complications, long-term cognitive deficits, and high mortality rate.
