Disease: A bacterial infection that can lead to meningitis and other serious conditions.

Symptoms: Sudden fever, headache, stiff neck, nausea, sensitivity to light, confusion.

Vaccine: Meningococcal Vaccine (Conjugate or polysaccharide vaccine)

Dose Schedule:

  • Primary dose: Single dose given intramuscularly.
  • Booster: Every 5 years if continued risk of exposure (e.g., travellers to sub-Saharan Africa).

Side Effects: Redness or pain at injection site, fever.

Risks if Contracted: Severe complications like sepsis, meningitis, high mortality rate without treatment.
